It informs us about an animals ecology and lifestyle. The needs for this are numerous, whether it is telling us what we need to provide for animals in captivity, how to run successful breeding programmes or even just pure scientific enquiry into understanding the world around us and how animals ‘work’

It also helps us to understand why they react in a certain way and to help people understand that animals are sentient beings who can feel, pain distress and fear and should be treated with respect and dignity, sadly this message does not get through to some people.
