I agree – silly phrase to use. ‘I slept like a sloth/cat’ would be much more appropriate!
I think people say it because babies are ‘care free’ so can sleep easier – but thats not true is it?

I don’t think many people who have had babies would say that! I think it is to do with the deeper sleep inocent people are thought to have over guilt ridden people, but I don’t know where it came from and I could not find it online

Probably because babies are actually quite deep sleepers… though it could be because babies grow loads in their sleep, so it could be refering to that?

they would mean they were very slient in their sleep and they would be a deep sleeper but they just mean a calm baby

You both make valid points, babies do a lot of growing in their sleep, it seems strange to think we can spend some much time with something that grows so quickly and we never see the actual growth! Not all babies are deep sleepers but some are especially if they are in a calm environment
