• Question: why do llamas spit?:)

      It’s not as a way of getting people to leave as many folk seem to think!

      Llamas use spitting as part of their social behaviour – it’s used when picking mates and also when llamas are trying to establish a hierarchy in a group. Think of them spitting as a playful tussle of sorts!

      The reason why they spit at humans is because llamas are very social and curiouos creatures and get very frustrated/lonely in zoos, they spit at humans as they mistake them for members of their herd! Sad but true 🙁

      they also spit if they feel threatened or if their territory is invaded they may also spit but they can be trained not to spit
