      Because their species have evolved them seperately over generations!

      Feathers and fur both serve to keep the animals worm but feathers also serve to aid birds in flight and in displays of courtship.

      Feathers are theorised to actually highly modified scales and are considered to be one of the most complex evolutionary novelties found in the vertebrates.
