Chances are cats don’t hate you, they are much more likely fearful of you! Wearing bright colours, being tall, even having glasses are all things cats can be initially wary of. What is most important however is your approach.

Where most people go wrong in making a cat afraid of it is that they walk right over and attempt to stroke them – next time you’re around a cat, ignore them! If the cat comes over to you, it is a sign they want you to stroke them or give them attention. Allowing cats to make the first move is the cornerstone of getting them to ‘like’ you.

And remember, some cats are predisposed to being scared of certain types of people. One of the cats in our cattery at Lincoln has had bad experiences previusly with men – so I just have to be resigned to the fact that for the time being, they will be very very scared of me.

Patience is a virtue with cats 🙂
