• Question: Have you ever noticed how when you blow in a dogs face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him in the car, he sticks his head out the window? Why?

Interesting observation! Not something that has been looked at in any great detail but I’d hazzard a guess that it may be because dogs love to smell the outside air, so the head out the window is a great sensory experience.

On the other hand, blowing in their face is an odd behaviour for them to observe and something they’re not used to – they probably are confused by it more than anything!

The dog may also be confused because it does not know what form of communication you blowing in their face means, it may confuse or frighten them because they don’t know what you want, you may get a different reaction if you blow on their face and make it a fun game, whereas sticking their head out of a car window is their choice
