When a caterpillar becomes a butterfly, its important to remember it is not turning into another species, it is simply metamorphising into a different form as part of their life cycle, but it is still the same species.
There are countless examples of this in the invertebrates with most insects going through life stages (larvae – pupis – adult) and some parasitic worms like the nematode going through several complicated stages as it goes from host to host.
