I would aim the book for 13 – 18 year olds and the content would be pictures of animals and articles written by technicians about what welfare initiatives they have developed and how they feel about working with laboratory animals.

I have noticed a theme when I talk to schools and that is a curiosity about how the animals are looked after, who cares for the animals and what we do to improve their welfare. Because of the fear a lot of people feel in this industry having a book with anonymous articles will be a win: win as people won’t be worried about telling me or having it published and students who don’t get the opportunity to go into the labs will get a real insight into the work we do, why we do it and how much we care about the animals
