Fire is hot because it’s releasing a lot of energy!

The fact that all this energy in being released means that the atoms in the fire move much faster, and therefore way faster than the atoms that compose say, your skin or an animals fur.

So when the those atoms enter in contact with your skin they will bombard with the atoms of your skin, therefore burning you/the animal

Fire burns almost everything not just people and animals, the heat of the fire causes blisters and burnt skin, there is not much that can escape fire.
