• Question: why are sharks pictured as man eating predators who are really vicious and scary, when you get more dog attacks and tornados, as on average there are only like 3 attacks a year i think? :s

      You’re dead right, the shark doesn’t cause nearly as many deaths as peopple think! I think it has to do with traditional beleifs going back centuries – sharks are terrifying to see and obviously we tend to favour animals that are cuddlier (dogs) than sharlks.

      Hollywood also is to blame to an extent as Sharks proved to be an easy mosnter/scary thing for movies which did much to spread this unnecessary fear.

      I blame Hollywood and Jaws too! Although like planes and cars, we have so many cars that we accept car accidents as a part of life whereas because there are fewer planes a plane crash is more dramatic, it may be the same as dogs and sharks there are so many dogs it is not headline news in the same way as a shark attack, I think there was one last year in Australia but lots of dog bites!
