• Question: How do animals learn to communicate? Because as humans our parents teach us how to talk but do animal's parents teach them how to bark or whatever?

      Well yes and no. Some sounds are innate, meaning they know by instinct how to form sounds. However parrots, birds and dolphins prettify the song or the call ONLY if they have a “teacher”, a more experienced individual who can perform more complicated tune.

      Our parents only teach us how to talk by talking to us, so when you were a baby your parent repeated words to you and then you started to copy them, it is similar with animals, there are lots of behavioural signs we pick up without them having to explain it to us, and believe me even as adults we don’t always know why some people act in certain ways. Communication is much more than talking.
