Compared to the majority of other species we actually live quite long, aided greatly by the fact that we have a society and most of us have access to things like healh care, food, water and shelter.

One of the reasons we don’t live as long as say, a giant tortoise is the speed of our metabolism. We live a pretty fast paced lifestlye and are active most of the time, it may be possible that in an alternate world we could be twice as slow but live twice as long!

The evolution of lifespan is still something that we are learning about – although metabolism (the chemical reaciotns in your body that allow you to live) plays a role, there may be other factors like environment and lifestyle that affect a species lifespan! We’ll know more eventually!

We do live a fair amount of time but it does not seem long enough, time just flies by and it is important to live each day to the full. It is down to so many different things as Kevin has said, it is difficult to pin point anything in particular, just enjoy the life we have and don’t look back with regret. 🙂
