• Question: does the way you smell make any difference to whether an animal likes you or not?

      Yes, espceially with domestic animals – scent is a very important way in whcih they recognise you. So if you somehow change your scent drastically, your animal may become slightly confused but don’t worry, most species can recognise you from your tone of voice and appearance too!

      Yes it does, in fact research has shown animals can be more aggressive towards a handler if they are wearing the wrong perfume! Some scents have been shown to cause a fear response in rodents and there are laboratories who won’t allow you to wear aftershave or perfume. How you are feeling may come out in your skin and animals will pick up on that too. But it is important to realise this is not personal against you just your smell. Providing you treat them well and don’t give them any reason to be anxious then domesticated animals will like you.
